Dive into the marvellous world of Kitesurfing in Mauritius & Rodrigues Islands
A dream that becomes reality
Have you ever dreamed about gliding over turquoise crystal water in an immense lagoon, only you and the entire ocean? What if this dream comes true with Islandian? Mauritius and Rodrigues islands both have some of the biggest lagoons of the Indian Ocean, offering a perfect and constant wind throughout the austral winter.
Mauritius has won its place among the top kitesurfing destinations during the last decades. Wave riding, freeride, freestyle, hydrofoil or even beginners who want to learn will find their predilection spot.
A glimpse with
Kitesurfing Champion Simon Lamusse
“There is no place like home”
Born and raised in Mauritius, Simon has find his path admiring kite surfers at the beach while flying his small inexpensive kite with his dad at the age of nine. After starting to kitesurf at twelve, his passion for this sport and the local vibrations of the island never stopped growing. At nineteen years old, with two titles such as 17th Vice Junior Kiteboarding Freestyle World Champion and Mauritian Champion in the World Kiteboarding Elite League senior ranking, kitesurfing in Mauritius has no more secrets for the Islandian Ambassador.
After two years traveling around the world to compete in some of the best spots of the planet, the Islandian Ambassador confides “There is no place like home, even after I’ve been riding all the best spots, my favourites are still located in my homeland”.
Simon, what would you recommend to a family looking for beginners kitesurfing lessons and a local Mauritian experience?
I believe that Bel Ombre, situated in the South Coast of the island, represents the perfect picture setting where the only thing left to do is to disconnect and live fully each second of your stay. There, the sandy shallow lagoon will make your learning experience easy and pleasant.
Right in front of the Kitesurfing Spot and next to the kite school of this South Coast, emerges
Heritage Le Telfair Resort.Breathe in the scent of the gentle sea breeze and listen to the peaceful melody of tropical birds singing after a blissful night's sleep in this five-star hotel.

Which places would you suggest to confirmed riders looking for a high level of adventure with wildlife all around?
Located near the Morne mountain in the South West part of the island, is One-Eye kitesurfing spot. This area receives 5 to 10-knot stronger winds thanks to a venturi effect due to the position of the mountains, providing therefore awesome conditions for freestylers or freeriders and represents the 5th best place in the world for this exciting adrenaline sport.
Set on one of Mauritius’ most attractive lagoon-facing spots, discover
LUX* Le Morne with its own on-site school and resident expert. Fringed by miles of sandy beaches, this is the best address for all kinds of activities: climbing Le Morne, exploring Black River Gorges National Park, and for barefoot walks and bicycle rides.
At only one hour thirty from Mauritius by plane, Rodrigues is a real kitesurfing paradise, still kept authentic and unspoiled from mass tourism. Surrounded by a coral reef, the island provides a huge turquoise flat lagoon and some waves off its shores. To escape to a simpler and more relaxed way of life, I would suggest to experience
Bakwa Lodge, located right in front of the spot. Nestled between the hills and Montagne Cherie, down a beaten path, you will find the
lodge set in a large garden planted with Bakwa (Vacoas palm) trees.

No need to search
longer. If you are looking for an exotic kitesurf trip, the islands of Mauritius and
Rodrigues are the place to be.
Enjoy your ride!
