As you land on the Reunionese territory at Roland Garros Airport, your rental car will be waiting for you to start your exciting adventure. Your first stop would naturally be your guest house, Les Agrumes to drop your suitcases, get comfortable and be on your way.
Set at the foot of the mountains of the gorgeous Plaine des Palmistes, you will be warmly welcomed by Mr. JISTA and his wife. Whether you are with family, friends or both you are sure to have a good time in this guesthouse consisting of 2 double rooms.
Once settled in, head towards l’Atelier Far far Kréol! The idea is simple; discovering the Reunionese gastronomy in all its glory. Jacky, who will be your guide for the day, will take you on a unique culinary journey through the local market. Being the amazing host that he is, he’ll end up inviting you over to his house.
Sharing a traditional meal in good company is the ultimate experience when living on island time. How about cooking on firewood and learning the ancestral techniques that have defined the Reunionese cuisine? The concept is everyone helps out to prepare lunch and once done, everyone gathers round to feast on the delectable Creole meal served on locally crafted plates and banana leaves.
Be prepared to be amazed by the beauty of La Plaine des Cafres’s plateau! Waking up at dawn is no ordeal once you trail around the lush forest of Belouve. Perched at an altitude of 1300 m, in the East of the island, this tropical forest is considered one of the most magical ones you will find there.
Make your way to the kingdom of Tamarin des Hauts, where you can embark on a kid-friendly hike which will take you to an unobstructed view of the Trou de Fer and its endless waterfalls.
Switch the mood up a bit in the afternoon and visit the Piton de Fournaise Volcano.At nightfall, get back to your guesthouse La Ferme Pécher Gourmand surrounded by stunning views and greenery.
Islandian tip: Leave early in the morning to enjoy the unimpeded view of the Trou de fer. Bring something to eat, water to quench your thirst and warm clothes. In all, this will take you 4 hours.
Ready for your third day in Reunion Island? Keep the thrill going by exploring the famous blue tunnel with the help of an experienced guide. Ranked amongst the 3 most beautiful tunnels of the island, this one is famous due to its unique and impressive lava sculptures. You will be admiring 22, 000 years’ worth of history.
After spending a whole day in the shoes of an explorer, head back to La ferme du Pecher Gourmand to make the most of your last night there.
After waking up to the sound of the exotic wind and having a breakfast filled with tropical flavours, it’s time to head for the wild South! Between the town of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Joseph you’ll find Sandy, your guide for the day who will happily help you discover the region. As authenticity is one of the character traits of Reunion Island, how about a cart ride pulled by oxen?
Besides, in the past that was the means of transport used by the inhabitants of the island. To further immerse yourself into the historical aspect of your discovery trip, stop by Sandy's farm and learn about the traditional ways of sugar cane cutting. Not only will you learn about the theorical side, better yet, you may also get to practice: Saber in hand, be farmers at heart for a while. To enhance your experience, you are invited to your guide’s family house to taste some “gateaux péï”.
It is a must to drop by La Saga du Rhum museum. You will certainly be hungry after so many activities, as such, a delicious picnic in the Domaine’s gardens will be organised.
As the night falls, let’s change the setting and head to Ilet aux Palmistes in Vincendo, on the heights of St. Joseph. With its label "Gîtes de France", the establishment consists of 2 guest rooms which is perfect for you to unwind. Just lay back and take in all the beauty of your surroundings as you will only be there for 2 nights.
Are you a tea lover? Wait no more and head to a guided tour through the labyrinth of Grand Coude’s tea field. If you have you ever wondered how the tea went from the tree to the cup, then your questions will be answered! You will be well received by the owners who will be more than happy to make you experiment their tea as well as the different flavoured plants they cultivate.
After your fun fieldtrip, go for a refreshing walk along the rugged coast, which undeniably offers one of the most mesmerising views on the island. Finish off the day with a copious meal and a goodnight’s sleep to make the most of your fun filled 6th day.
Start day 6 with a trip to the famous Langevin waterfall, one of the most stunning you may find on the island.
After relishing on such a magnificent view, save some energy for a Segway tour in the lush forest of Etang Salé. Once you have mastered the machine, you are now ready to go for a ride through the woods, guided by someone who knows every corner of the trail. To top it off, he will take you to the black sand beach for you to live a truly special moment.
With the unforgettable memories you have made from the day, check in for two nights at the Creole Balcony. Along with the beautiful landscapes offered by the city of Saint-Leu, be impressed by the friendliness of owners of the Creole Balcony, cited “Gite de France”, François and Michelle. It’s “Creole House” style will make your stay there all the more cosy and pleasant.
It is already the 7th day of your Island adventure. Kick the adrenalin notch up a bit with a paragliding flight soaring the sky in Saint-Leu. Like the famous local bird, the Paille en queues, fly in the exotic wind high at 800 meters of altitude and discover the West region of Reunion Island.
Next stop that afternoon would undoubtedly be St Gilles for a sunset cruise where cocktails and good music will be on the menu and finish off the day at Balcon Créole for your last night on the island.
As the saying goes: “All good things come to an end”. Given that Reunion Island has so much to offer, planning your last day is key to maximise your time left. You have a couple of options; stroll through the streets of Saint-Leu for souvenir shopping or if you are amongst those who prefer a last shot of adrenalin before departure, do not miss a visit at Trou d’eau lagoon on board of a see-through kayak.
Time to bid farewell! Depending on your flight schedule, drop off your rental car at your best convenience and off you go back home, eager to come back for another visit.
